Mr. Scheuer's real estate practice includes representation of investors, developers and lenders in the acquisition and sale, financing, tax planning, and operation of hotels, shopping centers, office buildings, and land subdivisions. His activities include participation in the negotiation of design and construction contracts, financing documents, purchase and sale agreements, leases, and financing transactions.
The trust, probate, estate and wealth management aspects of Mr. Scheuer's practice involve the gamut of activities from simple estate planning and revocable trusts to the creation and operation of private foundations, charitable lead and remainder trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, life insurance trusts, family limited partnerships, qualified personal residence trusts, and dynasty trusts, including gift tax, estate tax, and generation-skipping tax planning. Mr. Scheuer is actively engaged in the representation of trustees and in the representation of personal representatives of estates. He also assists clients with the selection of investment advisors and portfolio managers, with the development of the strategic allocations within their portfolios, and with monitoring the performance of investment advisors in accordance with his clients individualized objectives.
Mr. Scheuer dedicates a substantial part of his practice to assisting entrepreneurs and the owners of small businesses in the tax and organizational planning for their business activities, succession planning, and business planning and entrepreneurship issues.
Mr. Scheuer's legal abilities are complemented by his own business and entrepreneurial background. During the course of his career, he has been actively involved as an owner, director, and active participant in a variety of business activities, including real estate subdivisions and development, venture capital financing, retailing, and construction aggregates processing, as well as and the active management of Scheuer, Yost & Patterson, P.C. since its inception in 1981. Additionally, Mr. Scheuer has served on the board of directors of several for profit and non-profit organizations.
